We often receive questions about student cards – specifically the difference between the ČZU student card and the ISIC card. We would be happy to explain it briefly:

1. ČZU Student Card (with chip)

Officially, the ČZU Student Card is called the University Identification Card (UIC) and according to the Study and Examination Regulations it is a student ID card.

  • It is issued directly by ČZU as a student identification card.
  • It contains a chip used to access University systems, including the FEM Testing Centre.
  • This card may also include an ISIC licence if the student activates/pays for it.
    • That is why we sometimes say “Show your ISIC” at the reception or the entrance, even though it is technically a ČZU student chip card.

Study and Examination Regulations of ČZU dated 16.6.2022, Article 5, paragraph (5):

„Upon being enrolled in studies, students will become entitled to be issued a student card as a student ID card.
This document confirms the legal status of students and entitles them to the rights and benefits of a student arising from internal legal regulations and the internal regulations of CZU. The CZU Library issues student ID cards. For the purpose of issuing a student card, the student will provide his or her photo, which enables his or her unique identification.“

Study and Examination Regulations of ČZU dated 16.6.2022, Article 5, paragraph (6):

„A student card is used to prove the student’s identity at the CZU premises. If necessary, also in connection with another identity card. Students shall be obliged to prove their identity with this card in situations where the circumstances require their identification to registrars in Student Affairs Offices and to the staff of the security agencies providing security at CZU (especially to services at computer classrooms and study rooms, in the library, at lectures, seminars, during tests, and when taking examinations and credits).

2. ISIC (International Student Identity Card)

  • It is mainly used to prove student status outside the university – e.g. for discounts in transport, shops, etc.
  • It can take physical form (plastic card) or digital form in the Alive app.
  • But an ISIC without a chip (in virtual form) is not enough to enter the university premises.

To enter the Testing Center:

  • It is not enough to have your ISIC on your mobile phone or just your ISIC number.
  • It is necessary to have a ČZU student chip card (student card) – it is the only one that works for identification, at passageways and locker locks
  • You cannot enter or lock your locker without a card. It is forbidden to bring mobile phones inside the centre.

What should I do if I don’t have the card?

  • If you lose, forget or don’t have your card yet:
    • Have it issued at the ČZU Library, where ČZU student chip cards are issued.
    • It can take a while to get your card issued – plan ahead if you know the test is coming up.

We believe that the difference between the cards is now clearer. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact the FEM Testing Centre staff or the ČZU Library.
